A Calm, Supportive Haircut Experience for Every Child

At Ocean Kids and Family Salon®, we welcome children of all personalities and needs. Some children experience haircuts differently and may benefit from a calmer environment, extra reassurance or a little more time to settle in.

Our friendly stylists take a patient, child-led approach, helping every child feel comfortable, supported and more at ease during their visit.

We regularly support children who may be:

Autistic or on the autism spectrum
ADHD or neurodiverse
Sensory-sensitive to sound, touch or busy environments
Nervous or unsure about haircuts

Every child is unique, so our team always adapts the experience to suit the child’s personality, comfort level and needs.

Our aim is always to create a calm, positive experience that works as well as possible for each child.

Choosing the Best Time to Visit

For children who benefit from a calmer atmosphere, some days can feel more relaxed than others.

Our salon is usually quietest on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which many families find ideal for children who may feel overwhelmed by busy environments.

Fridays and weekends are typically our busiest and most energetic days, with lots of families visiting the salon.

If your child prefers a quieter experience, we often recommend booking earlier in the week.

The Ocean® Big Achievers Haircut

For children who may need a little extra time, patience and encouragement, we offer our Big Achievers Haircut.

Available Monday to Thursday

This 45-minute session is slightly longer than our standard haircut, allowing our stylists to take a slower, more relaxed approach and help children feel comfortable throughout the experience.

Depending on the child, this may include:

• Allowing time to explore the salon environment before starting
• Letting children watch their favourite shows or play games during their haircut
• Taking a step-by-step approach to build trust and confidence
• Giving children the freedom to pause or take short breaks if needed
• Keeping communication gentle, calm and reassuring

Some children are ready straight away, while others may need a little time to settle in — and that’s perfectly okay.

Our goal is always to create a positive, confidence-building experience, so every child can leave feeling proud of themselves — like a true Ocean® Big Achiever.

Little Rewards for Big Bravery

Every little customer enjoys the full Ocean® experience, including:

🎈 Complimentary balloons
🍭 Lollipops or biscuits
⭐ Stickers and a toy for boys
💅 Nail painting with water-based polish and a sparkling ring for girls

These small touches help turn a visit into a fun and confidence-boosting moment, especially for children who may have felt nervous before arriving.

Helping Your Child Prepare for Their Visit

Some families find it helpful to prepare their child ahead of the appointment.

You might try:

• Talking positively about the haircut beforehand
• Showing photos of the salon environment
• Bringing a favourite toy or comfort item
• Choosing a quieter appointment day
• Letting our team know about any sensitivities or triggers
• Arriving with hair clean, dry and as tangle-free as possible

This helps us spend more of the appointment focusing on the haircut itself and can make the visit feel smoother, quicker and more comfortable for your child.

Small steps like these can help children feel more relaxed and confident during their visit.

Book Your Visit

If your child has sensory sensitivities, autism, ADHD or haircut anxiety, feel free to mention this in the notes when booking.

Many families choose the Big Achievers Haircut during quieter days such as Tuesday or Wednesday.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Ocean® experience, where every child is celebrated and every haircut is an adventure. 🌊✂️
