Hair Donations at Ocean Kids and Family Salon®

At Ocean Kids and Family Salon®, every haircut can make a difference. We proudly partner with The Little Princess Trust, donating 50% of every Hair Donation haircut directly to the charity — helping fund the creation of real-hair wigs for children and young people who’ve lost their hair due to cancer or other medical conditions. And that’s not all — we also send your donated hair, free of charge, to The Little Princess Trust so it can be turned into beautiful wigs that restore confidence and smiles.
🎉 You’ll receive an Ocean Kids and Family Salon® printed Certificate on the day, and a digital Thank-You Certificate from The Little Princess Trust after your hair is received.
💝 Your haircut gives twice — once through your hair, and again through our 50% donation to The Little Princess Trust

About The Little Princess Trust
Founded in 2005 in memory of Hannah Tarplee, The Little Princess Trust has provided nearly 20,000 free wigs to children and young people across the UK and Ireland. The charity has also funded 158 cancer research projects looking for kinder and more effective childhood cancer treatments, giving not just hair, but hope too.
Each wig is handcrafted from real donated hair and styled to suit the child’s age, personality, and natural look — allowing them to feel like themselves again.
How to Donate Your Hair
At Ocean Kids and Family Salon®, we make the hair donation process simple and stress-free.
As an official Hairdresser Ambassador for The Little Princess Trust, our trained stylists follow the charity’s exact guidelines to make sure every strand is suitable to turn into a real-hair wig.
Here’s how it works when you donate through us:
1️⃣ Book Your Appointment (Tuesday–Thursday only)
Hair Donation Haircuts are available from Tuesday to Thursday and can be booked by using the booking button above or by contacting us via WhatsApp.
We’ll have everything prepared ahead of your visit — including your certificate, the donation pack, recyclable envelope and paperwork — so that your hair can be processed and sent to The Little Princess Trust as part of our official salon submissions. You won’t need to bring anything. We handle the full donation process from start to finish.
💙 For every Donation haircut, Ocean Kids and Family Salon® donates 50% of the service cost to The Little Princess Trust — helping create real-hair wigs for children and young people in need.
2️⃣ Prepare Your Hair Before Your Appointment
To meet The Little Princess Trust’s donation standards, the section of hair being cut for donation must measure at least 10 inches (25 cm) from the band to the ends. Longer ponytails — ideally 12 inches + (30 cm+) — are even more valuable, as they can be used to make longer wigs.
Your hair should be:
Clean, dry, and free of styling products
Freshly washed and completely dry before your appointment
Free from conditioner, hairspray, or other products
Permanent colour in natural shades is fine — but no semi-permanent dyes or unnatural colours
You can choose to keep your new style simple or enjoy a full restyle after your donation haircut—our stylists will guide you on what’s possible, depending on how much hair remains.
If you’d like us to wash and dry your hair beforehand, please mention “Wash, Cut & Dry (no blow-dry)” in your WhatsApp
message when booking. This ensures your hair is clean, dry, and fully donation-ready in line with The Little Princess Trust guidelines.
🎥 Parents are welcome to take photos or a short video of the “big chop” — it’s a lovely keepsake!
3️⃣ We Cut, Prepare & Package Your Hair
During your visit, your stylist will:
Discuss your preferred style and confirm whether enough length can be donated while still achieving a look you’ll love.
Section your hair into ponytails or plaits
Cut above the top band to keep it in perfect condition for donation
Carefully place each ponytail into a recyclable envelope or bag
Complete the necessary paperwork and prepare the parcel for posting
We’ll ensure your hair is ready to go exactly as The Little Princess Trust requires — so you don’t need to worry about a thing.
4️⃣ We Post It for You
Once your donation is ready, we send it directly to The Little Princess Trust free of charge from our salon.
This ensures it arrives quickly and safely, while supporting the charity’s environmental commitment to recyclable packaging.
You don’t need to bring or post anything — we handle it all for you.
5️⃣ You Receive Your Certificate
You’ll leave with a printed Ocean Kids and Family Salon® certificate on the day — a keepsake to celebrate your kindness.
Then, once The Little Princess Trust receives and processes your hair, they’ll email you a digital Thank-You Certificate to recognise your amazing donation.
We’ll make sure all the necessary details are passed on so you receive it promptly.

📦 What Happens Next
Once your hair is sent, The Little Princess Trust sorts and combines donations from across the UK to create beautiful, bespoke wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair through illness or medical treatment.

Hair Donation FAQ
The Little Princess Trust requires at least 10 inches (25 cm) of hair to be cut for donation. Growing to 12 inches (30 cm+) is ideal, as longer ponytails are even more helpful for wig making.
Tie your hair into a ponytail and measure from the top band to the ends. Please make sure there will still be enough hair left for a style you’ll love; your stylist will help plan this before the big chop. The section being cut must measure at least 10 inches (25 cm) after cutting.
Hair must be clean, dry, and in good condition. Straight, wavy, curly, grey, afro-textured, and permanently coloured hair in natural shades are welcome. Healthy highlighted or bleached hair is fine.
Hair that is wet, synthetic, dreadlocked, or dyed with semi-permanent colours or henna cannot be accepted. Please avoid oils and heavy conditioners before your appointment, and ensure hair is completely dry when cut.
Arrive with hair clean, dry, and free from conditioner, oils, and styling products. If you prefer us to prepare it, book “Wash, Cut & Dry (no blow-dry)” so everything meets The Little Princess Trust standards.
There is no extra fee to donate. Your Hair Donation haircut is charged at our normal price, and 50% of that amount is donated directly to The Little Princess Trust. We also post your hair free of charge using recyclable packaging.
Yes. Our salon is calm, child-friendly, autism-aware, and sensory-sensitive, so young donors feel comfortable and supported. Parents are welcome to capture the “Big Chop” with photos or a short video.
You will receive two certificates. We present a printed Ocean Kids and Family Salon certificate on the day as a keepsake. Then, after The Little Princess Trust receives and processes your hair, they email you a digital Thank-You Certificate. If it hasn’t arrived after a week, please check your spam folder or email hello@littleprincesses.org.uk.
Yes. All healthy hair types are welcome. Grey hair can be used when mixed with suitable colours. Afro-textured hair should be cut in its natural curl without oils and secured with bands (not plaited) before cutting.
Yes, as long as the hair is in excellent condition and a natural shade. Semi-permanent or henna-dyed hair cannot be accepted because the colour fades over time.
At the end of each month, we total all Hair Donation haircuts and donate 50% directly to The Little Princess Trust to support free wigs and vital childhood cancer research.
